[ QUOTE ]
I answered yes on the first question then no on the second. I was in a freeroll where very few people showed up so on my first table it was just me and 1 other guy with 8 post and folding no shows. He suggested we split the blinds I said nothing but went ahead with it. I felt like a dirty, dirty colluder [/ QUOTE ] I wouldn't feel bad about this... wouldn't you have just done it anyway? I sure would. He's the idiot for actually vocalizing it. It's like checking it down late in a tournament when a shortstack is all-in, most savvy players will do this automatically unless they make a hand they figure will bust the short stack. It's not unethical in and of itself but as soon as someone suggests it it's VERY unethical. I see it all the time on the 'net, which is why 'stars shuts chat down when someone is all-in. The only time I've ever encountered it in a card room an obvious newbie asked me, "Wanna check it down?" I said, "I dunno, lets see the flop. We're not allowed to agree on that." He responded,"Really? I didn't know that." The dealer knows me pretty well. He was about to admonish the n00b until I did, he just gave a little wink. We ended up checking it down as neither one of us hit anything. SS triples up against my AKo and his ATs with a mid-pair like 88. |

I've never cheated. That's the simple truth. I hope there are many like me.

In case you didn't notice, this is a thread about whether or not you have cheated. But thank you for the witty response sir.

I'm sure 2p2'ers have a higher percentage of cheaters then the average poker player. I voted no, but am never to far from it I guess.

I don't cheat but I do use PokerTracker which i consider to be somewhat unethical given that not everyone knows about it. [/ QUOTE ] I guess what I mean is that, many players don't know about books, or 2+2, or ICM calculators (sng jargon), or a bunch of other stuff that could make you better. PT alone is just keep track of your stats. The integrity of HUD's, however, is a whole different argument. |

Yeah, i call bs on the poll results.
Some people I've known who have been as honest and straight up off the table as any people I've ever met, I have either caught or had admit to me that they've cheated at poker. In high school I cheated with a friend for a few weeks and cleaned up, playing against my other good friends. I felt bad and called it off. In the same game I rigged the deck a few times (always because it was 'justified' for some reason). Since then, I have played at B&M casinos with someone I was invested in. We never overtly colluded, but we knew how each other played and sometimes manipulated pots. All of these things had me feeling bad afterwards, and I haven't cheated in at least a year, but never-the-less. I've never cheated online. So, though my answer to the second poll was that I don't cheat any more, it wasn't a one time thing. I'm not saying it's not reprehensible, but I don't for a second believe that a majority, let alone an overwhelming majority, of 2+2ers have never cheated. Poker's a grifters game. It's all about winning money off other people. I am sure that most people have given in to the temptation to cheat at some point. |

I don't see anything unethical about using it only to track your own play. Using it to spy out the competition may be wandering into a grey area, and I'm definitely opposed to pairing it with an HUD. -Mike |

Interesting that GT+ and Poker Ace are perceived by some as borderline on the ethics scale, but no mention is being made of that segment of the population that takes advantage of unauthorized rakeback schemes on Party – an activity that is clearly proscribed by the poker room and a practice that I consider to be unfair, since it means that some opponents are paying less to play than you are, on an ongoing basis.
Party Poker’s marketing manager makes a lot of noise preaching against rakeback – although his basic argument is that affiliates would cannibalize each other’s players. But Party’s attrition rate is a whopping 75 percent, its new-player acquisition costs are enormous and one-third of its new players are attracted via affiliates. So I believe he speaks with forked tongue and turns a blind eye to sub-rosa affiliate kickbacks. I was unaware that Party specifically disapproves of GT+ and Poker Ace. My view is that these tools definitely confer a real-time advantage, but are transparent and inexpensively available to all, much as bonus offers are. I believe Poker Tracker is fundamentally a comprehensive self-help tool, and an indispensable one at that. Off-table data mining was certainly a sharp practice, but that has been severely reduced. I HAVE cheated twice in my life: once on an insignificant test and once on a wife. I'm sorry about the test. |
