1st Round Matchups:
Nick O'Hern (-120) v. Ian Poulter (1 unit) It's hard to beat the 30c clip at the sportsbook, but I think there is value in some of the remaining matchups. Its a 16 v 29 matchup in world golf rankings. (O'Hern being ranked at 16.) O'Hern led Australasian PGA Tour order of merit last year. Was hot on tour in USA despite being an international player last year. He played in the 2005 and 2006 masters, finishing T19 last year and T45 in '05. He made the cut easily both years, shooting 71-72 last year and 72-72 in '05. (-1 for Thurs-Fri career). Has had experience in majors with a Top 10 in the US Open last year and a T15 in the British in '05. He's also a lefty, which I think is favorable on Augusta's layout. O'Hern had a good finish last year and I expect him to throw up a 71 on the board day 1. Poulter hasn't been at the masters since 2005. This is his third masters appearance, same as O'Hern. However, his averages are slightly higher and he has performed worse in all the tournaments they have shared this year. His opening rounds in '04 and '05 were 75 and 72, respectively. Pretty consistent, however I don't believe he can fire an opening rd of better than par. Look for him to shoot 74. Masters 2007 0-0-0 |

Skipping over some Thursday matchups as I don’t think I can pick ‘em well enough to overcome the juice. I will still comment on them however to start discussion if anyone else is out there. I’d lean toward the following…
Zach Johnson (-115) v. Vaughn Taylor (no bets yet) ZJ threw up an 81 Rd. 1 last year, but I think he is still a very solid player. He putts very well and has 2 Augusta tournaments under his belt now. Hopefully this settles some of his nerves. Vaughn Taylor played his first Masters last year and missed the cut despite being a hometown guy. He is a good player as well, however I think it will be a successful weekend if he makes the cut. |

Thursday Matchups:
Stuart Appleby (-115) v. KJ Choi (No bets yet) Appleby has opened with 71 and 69 the previous two years. His experience at Augusta is almost double Choi’s. Last year he T19. Choi actually has a better scoring average than Appleby, but he hasn’t played as many Masters tournaments. The scoring average doesn’t stay the same throughout the week, so I would think Appleby’s weekend rounds should raise his avg. slightly. This one is very close to even, as the odds indicate. |

Thursday Matchups:
Geoff Ogilvy (-110) v. Henrik Stenson (1 unit) Ogilvy has won more notable tournaments (2006 US Open), and didn’t finish below T16 at any of last year’s majors. He will not miss the cut. Stenson is a #6 ranked player, but has most of his experience over seas. He could possibly miss the cut…again…IMO. Each has only played the masters once (2006). Stenson was 77-74(MC), Ogilvy 70-75-73-71(T16). Shooting 71 on Sunday at Augusta is quite noticeable to me, especially in his first appearance. |

TOURNAMENT MATCHUPS:
Phil Mickelson (+240) v. Tiger Woods (2 units) Tiger is not god. He is good, but it's better than 2.4:1 he gets beat by Philtits IMO. Phil has now won the Masters twice, has a little mojo remaining from last year, and I think he can win again. He hasn't finished out of the top 10 since 1998, where he was T12. That fact is ridiculous. Scoring average of 70.98, and has 31 career rounds under par there. How do I even size up Tiger. He is the best...no doubt. In the past few years he has had the propensity to throw up at least one high number due to aggressiveness, however he makes up for it because when he goes low, it's soo low he recovers. Scoring average is 70.85, just under Phil's. I'm really excited for this matchup, and would have anticipated the line moving to +200 or lower. |

TOURNAMENT MATCHUPS:
Vijay Singh (+280) v Tiger Woods. (1 unit) Scoring average at the masters is 72.04 for Vijay, and has been in the top 8 the last 5 years, plus he won in 2000. He is always consistent, and if Tiger happens to have an off week, Vijay is great value at +280 IMO. |

I'm not a huge Golf Bettor (being English Football aka soccer is my main bag) - just tend to have a dabble at the big golf events.
Can make a case for Mickleson outright but I just feel Tiger will lock this down - unfortunatley the odds dont appeal at the stakes I am prepared to wager. Interesting thoughts on the matchups so I will be having a better look at those - I've also had a couple of little bets on Angel Cabrera, he's a big hitter, finished 8th last year and has been in the top 15 the 3 out of the last 5 years - apparently he also comes into this with rounds of 69 and 67 at Houston. I've had a cheeky bet on him to be the top "Rest of the World" golfer and also to be in the lead after Day 1 (massvie odds of 74/1). I think Padraig Harrington looks tempting for top European, although a number of players could pull this one off. Anyone else playing these markets? (all bets are based with Betfair). |

OK, I am a newbie at sports betting. I like golf and decided to make two or three parlays (just like the OP in this thread) for Masters just for fun. I just made an account to Pinnacle (I am European), because I heard that they have usually the best odds.
Now how do I make parlays there? When I select my Masters bets and click update bets, it just gives an option to make straight bets? Is it not possible to make parlays at Pinny in every bet they offer and combine them freely? I have previously bet online at centrebet.com some years ago and there I was able to combine bets however I wished. Thanks for help. |
