I agree with you 100% swede, but there is no convincing fatties that their knees and ankles arent really that bad, they all have an excuse it seems.

Also try biking, if you have one. Putting in a bike day every so often helps those knees.

Heh. Did you actually read the OP?

ooops, didn't read the last sentence.

Still, putting in a bike day intermittingly is still a good strategy, methinks.

Easy. This is exactly what happened to me when I first started running. I was 40lbs overweight and hadn't run since the mile run in gym class. I went a half mile and was dying. I rested like three or four days until I was no longer too sore and tried again. By about the fourth try, I ran over a mile with no resting. Just keep pushing yourself. When you're dealing with such short distances, it's amazing how quickly you can progress. Assuming speed is not a goal right now, I'd say you will progress very quickly until you plateau around 5 miles non-stop. At that point, a better way to extend is to take 30 second walk-breaks every mile or two whether you need them or not. By mile 8 you'll be glad you did. Good luck. Running is a good habit to get into.

damn, that sounds like it will be damaging to the knees. don't you think you should lose some weight via dieting before putting a 3 mile load on your knees?

Also, music is the only way to get through jogging or running, like 10 songs of super fast paced pump-yourself up music (ie anything by ACDC) makes cardio abotu a billion times easier.

Jogging is probably one of the worst physical activities in terms of wear and tear. If you are overweight, you probably are better off doing something like swimming or cycling. Running is going to most defnitely be better than sitting on your ass though.
