We had a roommate in college who was the simplest person I have ever met and she graduated with honors from a Big Ten school. Here are a few of her gems:

1) She was upset because some didn't clean the soup pot and it had "moss" growing in it.

2) While admitting a lack of knowledge of history she asked us who fought in the civil war.

3) She didn't understand why it was such a big deal they were tearing down a wall between East and West Germany.

Ironically, Columbus didnt 'discover' the earth wasnt flat, its a well known fact going back millenia, and its actually a modern concept that people thought the earth was flat.

In fact if memory serves, it was in ancient greece when the earth was first 'measured' using elevated poles in order to find out the curvature of the earth and thus work out its exact size by extrapolating that measurement. The accuracy of it was later found out to be stupidly exact, measuring the exact size to within a few feet.
