I like live poker a lot but at the same time I'm often hugely bored while playing. Sounds weird but I can't imagine it's uncommon.

if i could make the same sitting in a casino doing nothing as i do playing over the same period....there is no way i would take it. maybe in a year or two after moving up into midstakes and being successful there, or whatever, but at this point, no way.

I love [censored] with people while I play. I love being in position and raising people all day long. Watching their time bank run down before they fold to my bluff raise is awesome. stealing small pots and everything else is fun to me.

However, if I was a marignal winner at 1kNL with big swings, I would probably take the money no questions asked.

I would say that I thoroughly enjoy thinking and playing poker. There are some downsides to both live and online poker but I try to mix it up and lead a balanced life.

I don't think your friends are losing only because they don't enjoy poker. However they might be losing more than they would be if they did enjoy poker.

I would not take my win rate to never play play poker again, however there is some amount I would take to play less poker. How much and how much less I don't know?

I play a lot of different games and play frequent shorter sessions in order to keep my interest. This probably costs me money in the short run, but it doesn't cost me as much as I will gain in the long term from thinking about all the different strategies and playing for a few hours and then going to do something else like writing, reading, tennis, guitar, go out to dinner and debate with friends, etc.

I'd put it this way. I don't think playing for 10 hours a day instead of 5 or 6 would be worth the additional theoretical monetary gain to me. I value my free time way to much and I have other things I like to think about and do.

Your friends probably do enjoy poker to some extent, and would miss it if they never played. However they probably do not enjoy the amount of poker they play, or feel they have to play in order to earn enough money. They probably need to rethink how they spend their time and what really constitutes happiness for them. Also they should play less when losing and more when winning, they will do much better.
