[ QUOTE ]
I would never kill someone because they stole something from me.

[/ QUOTE ]

Neither would I. But because I am willing and able to defend myself, the chance that someone will try to steal from me is greatly reduced. And because the would-be theif cannot tell the willing and able from the defenseless, the chances that the defenseless will be victimized are also reduced.

Do you see why?

Yes, in your example with your aunt, I believe she put herself in great risk when she tried to stop the criminal by shooting at him.

[/ QUOTE ]

WTF? She was *already* "in great risk". Do you really think that *stopping* the attacker *increased* that risk? She might have ended up *more* dead?

[ QUOTE ]
Both herself, in case the criminal shot back, and of course the criminal too. I would never kill someone because they stole something from me.

[/ QUOTE ]

Don't stop the criminal, you might hurt him! Please explain why I should have any regard for someone who is *in the process* of *actively* trying to harm me?

pvn, I demand that you buy me that unicorn. I've got majority rule support, so don't even bother with your "oh my rights" nonsense. The majority loves unicorns!

People that want to surrender their rights to the government are nuts.

I think we should end this conversation, at least for my part, as it doesn't seem to go anywhere. I (and a few others) are still against guns, you are still for.

That's OK. I don't think there is much else to say. I do respect your opinions, and I don't want this to become nasty.
Last of all, it's not like i disrespect Americans or America because of this (in case somebody thinks I'm an America-basher). I love America. I lived in Los Angeles 6 months some time ago and had the greatest time of my life. Most people are much more friendly than in Norway, and I just love the rich culture and everything the country has to offer. Wish you all the best, and see you at the table.

Gun lovers infuriate me. You are the people who lose children becuase you couldn't bear to be without a glock or a 45 and your children blow their brains out becuase you needed to be packing. What a joke. You people are dangerous and scary.

[/ QUOTE ]

You mention "infuriate", "dangerous" and "scary". Is it possible that your objections to guns are primarily based on emotion rather than on reason and statistically supported analysis?

Note, however, that nobody is trying to force you to have a gun.

One side is trying to impose personal subjective preferences on the other. The other side is not.

Think of the children! Never mind that more kids die in swimming pools. You bourgeous people just HAD to have your fancy swimming pool! You people are dangerous and scary.

[/ QUOTE ]

Your swimming pool is very unlikely to accidentally drown me on my own property while you are using it to defend your property from an intruder.

[/ QUOTE ]

Which is also true of his gun. It is extremely unlikely that you will accidentally be STRUCK with a bullet firedt by someone on the neighboring property WHILE he is: A) being attacked, AND B) using that gun in self-defense.

In fact, I'd say you would probably have a greater chance of winning the Canadian Lottery, even if both your immediate neighbors kept guns at home.
