[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Jay Cutler Beginning Workout Plan This is what I use, it really isnt a beginner workout, its just not one comparable to a professional bodybuilders workout. [/ QUOTE ] ugh. isolation isolation isolation. no power, no speed, no skill development. [/ QUOTE ] Never heard of "that" Jay Cutler. Sunday instead of doing rows and shrugs do cleans - if you don't know the technique watch some videos and just try with just a bar before doing shrugs/rows. Pretty decent set of excercises though. Fly machine is lame though, not really a functional excercise but good I guess if you want big 'ol pecs. -SmileyEH |

All,
here's what I do for my workout http://www.geocities.com/elitemadcow...odized_5x5.htm If you want to improve on the big 3 (squat, bench, deadlift) take a look at it and d/l the spreadsheet. |

workout guys, For those of you who have been sticking to working out for some time, what motivates you? [/ QUOTE ] Originally... -Not wanting to look like every other twig like cross country runner -Then it was to get in shape for West Point physical exam stuff (what you would expect; push ups, pull ups, timed run, also random stuff like kneeling basketball through for distance [think shot put]) -After that and a bout with cancer it became "so Im not swimming in my old clothes" -But overall and now I would have to say its because I really enjoy moving > my bodyweight on anything. Some lifters will tell you they love to go to the gym and hit the biceps with curls while standing in a power cage ("Frat Curls"... a pet peeve) and then do some elite core work.... But I personally respect the guys that go in and try to get in sick shape for a chosen sport/goal or who dedicate themselves to moving weights that would break the average person. Also real fast I dont think anyone answered G Ave. -Your workout looks ok to begin with. I'd suggest starting to up the numbers and work to failure with pushups, etc. I would also suggest adding some simple back work in the form of pullups at this stage (so you dont get some crazy muscle imbalance, and just for more complete fitness). Also I know you said something about not wanting to be big... but as you advance that shouldnt prevent you from moving into actual barbell work to add exercise variety and increase intensity. I promise you wont look overly big and beastly the second you touch a bar :-) |

workout guys, For those of you who have been sticking to working out for some time, what motivates you? I use to be in great shape a few years ago when i played sports in HS and such, however, now that i don't play organized sports it's difficult for me to find the motivation to consistently workout a few days a week. What keeps you motivated? is it that you feel better, look better/confidence, health aspect/ can party harder... [/ QUOTE ] Its only hard to stay motivated when you try to do too much. I fear for some of these out of shape guys who have huge goals like getting a 6-pack. Set smaller and more attainable goals. Its really not that hard to work out 30 minutes every day and to eat sensibly. But its extremely hard to work out 2 hours a day and eat perfectly. Many people try to do the latter and then fall off within a few weeks. |
