Scott,
A two-outer on the flop is about 9% of hitting either the turn or river, so the backdoor draws are nowhere near a 3 1/2 outer, despite of course the obvious difference that a two-outer will either improve or still be a two-outer and won't have calling odds on the flop. But when calculating these backdoor draws as flopped outs, 1.5 isn't far off, although it's more like between 1.5 to 2 outs. Lars |

I'm pretty sure his whole point is, indeed, providing food for thought.

Worst case scenario the button has QQ and we will only win 6% of the time by hitting a backdoor straight or flush, making us 17 to 1. We are getting 15 to 1 + implied odds, so it's it should be an auto-call. We peel one off, if we dont improve and there is a bet, we fold.
Best case scenario if pairing our kings will still win, we win 20% of the time, giving us 5 to 1. We are getting 15 to 1 so a very easy call. -J |

15 1/2 to 1 to catch a diamond draw or a Ten, then its 9 to 1 or 10 to 1 on the turn if you to draw to a straight even if a 9 comes on the turn, then you are looking at about 9 to 1 or 10 to 1 to hit the gutshot to follow up with the river so I would say yes to the call, but not exactly for this math equation. If you fold here, that is just bad poker.

First I want to add that you can't raise with this hand on any street. You are down to calling, calling and calling. While this might sound neglectable, it is a very passive approach that should usually be avoided (selfweighing approach).
Next I want to mention some other (and in view of the recent debate over Snyder's blasphemy almost funny) observation and this is that if you call here you would be basically ignoring David Sklansky's advice from "Poker, Gaming and Life" - p.65ff. I am still hoping for David to provide his solution to this question. |
