Just out of curiosity, if you're at a sporting event and the "wave" comes around, do you do it with everyone else or just sit there?

I do think there's an issue of age and life experiences involved here. I'm gonna guess that most of the people here questioning the legitimacy of others' expressions of feelings have rarely (if ever) actually experienced grave personal trauma or loss.

This is a really good point. I didn't think of it. I've been very lucky and nothing really bad has ever happened to me. I wonder if something will have to happen before I can become more sensitive to others...

[/ QUOTE ]

Probably. And that, is part of the human condition.

Nobody's asking you to become Mother Teresa (though she'd have run so g00t at the tables, I imagine). But if you don't like what someone's expressing on teh intrawebs, just move on -- no need to try to claim their emotions are fake.

Remember, only you can prevent forest fires.

vapid people feel the need to mention things like this so that other people think they are up-to-speed with world events. It's really lame.

On a similar sort of note, last night I was watching Holyfield/Bowe II on ESPN classic and Bowe's pregnant wife fainted ringside and was taken out of the venue mid-fight. Who walked with her all the way out to the ambulance? None other than Jessie Jackson. I thought it was totally necessary of him. Pause. Not.

I do the wave. I'm normally drunk. This can extend to sports as well. Die hard sports fans....like the people that get dressed up and face paint and are willing to fight rival sports fan. Lame. I don't really get the point of that either...but it's a whole separate topic. All sports could be wiped off the face of the earth tomorrow and my life would continue on like nothing happened. My best friend and brother would probably take their lives.

I was just curious how emotive you are in general. My father is one of these guys who can go to a sporting event surrounded by tens of thousands of people and never cheer or boo or anything. Except Notre Dame football. He went there and my youth is still scarred from him screaming about "mother f*cking Blair Kiel", but even then I think he would internalize all the positive stuff in a public setting. Anyway, he wouldn't be caught dead doing the wave, and his thoughts would be in line with your OP. (Although one thing I totally agree with him on is how stupid people look when a TV camera pans to them and they feel compelled to scream/yell/look like idiots.)

people who mention the incident and have used a abbreiationfor it "VT" are sick.

edit: this thread makes me disgusted with the sheer herd instinct that everybody has.

AZK,
don't feel bad for feeling this way. people in this thread will try to make you reform to feel the way everybody else does and what you "should" feel.fthat. those patheticly weak people will do it because everybody else does and people wqill aslo defend it because everybody else is doing it ,thus it's not nealry as big of a deal if I WAs THE ONLY ONE TO DO IT.
