Default Refridgerating Wine (and other alcohol for that matter)

Approx 6 days ago, I 'borrowed' a bottle of wine from my parents house. A white "savignon blanc". As I personally am not much of a wine drinker, I still have it.

I put it in the fridge, even though it was previously stored at room temp. Should I take it out of the fridge if I don't think I'm drinking it soon? Or should I now perma-store it in the fridge till we drink it? Or take it out and keep it in the closet till the day/weekend of, or is it too late for that?

How do you know when/if to chill a wine?

I'm going to assume cheap beer in the fridge is ok for a long time (eg, month+). Vodka in the freezer. I have Kahlua in the fridge as well. Any critiques of these three are appreciated.

Just take it out and store it on its side, out of sunlight, relatively cool. Anything you hear about "temperature shock" is bogus. Wine can tolerate cool, it just can't tolerate heat.

Drink it within 2-3 years, most whites won't last longer than that.

Then is there really a reason to take it out at all?
