Re: *** Official St Louis Cardinals to the 2006 World Series Thread **
JRod may be back in triple A next week. Although with Bigbie going on the DL JRod will have a better chance of making the club. According to the St Louis Post Dispatch JRod, Chris Duncan, John Gall and Skip Schumaker are fighting for one or two outfield spots. I would not be surprised if Aaron Miles starts at second base instead of Junior Spivey or at least replaces him early in the season.

C Molina SS Eckstein [/ QUOTE ] These guys are serviceable, but not core players, or even average major league regulars. The Cards are giving up much too much at several places on the diamond. |

Molina (TOR) Jojhima (SEA) Estrada (ARI) Barrett (CHC) McCann (ATL) LaRue (CIN) Willingham (FLO) Navarro (LAD) Lieberthal (PHI) Doumit (PIT) Piazza (SDP) Schneider (WAS) Guys I'd definitely prefer Molina to (2): Hall (TBA) Ardoin (COL) |

I could see the Cards making the series. They won't be winning it though.

Re: *** Official St Louis Cardinals to the 2006 World Series Thread **
Please elaborate. After the first month or two, his offense improved dramatically. His defense is top 5 in all of baseball. Plus, he's super young and getting better by the day - it's quite reasonable to assume that in his 2nd full season he'll take a very real step forward.

[/ QUOTE ] Eckstein turned out to be one of the best SS in the National League last year, as well as a very good lead off man. He works the count, gets on base a lot, and you will never see anybody bust their ass harder than he does. I think saying that he is not even an average major league baseball player is crazy. He is a perfect fit for a team like St. Louis. Now will he drop off some this year? Maybe, but he will still be a WAY above average baseball player and one of the keys to the Cards success. B. |

Re: *** Official St Louis Cardinals to the 2006 World Series Thread ***
I'm concerned about the OF depth as well. But I have high hopes for some of that Cardinal magic to work wonders on Encarnacion - I smell a career year coming.
I think having Rolen back will be good for Edmonds as well, less pressure I would think. If he, Rolen and Pujols stay healthy, it doesn't get better than those 3 in the NL, IMO. The Brewers concern me more than any other team in the division, because I think Weeks, Fielder, and Hardy are going to be better than people are predicting (in the generic sense, not the PECOTA sense). But I think they're still a year away from being a major threat. |
