Default couple of noob questions

[ QUOTE ]
Q: I see lots of slang around here.. abbreviations and such, what do they mean?

A:

[/ QUOTE ]

tl;dr : ???

[ QUOTE ]
Q: What's the proper bankroll for each limit?

A: General consensus is that a player should keep at least 20 buyins for each limit he's playing. Excluding poor beginner play, bad bankroll management is the biggest reason that new players go bust. Do yourself a favor and only play in games you can afford.

Limit: $0.01/$0.02 | Needed: $40 ($100 on Stars)
Limit: $0.05/$0.10 | Needed: $200
Limit: $0.10/$0.25 | Needed: $500
Limit: $0.25/$0.50 | Needed: $1000
Limit: $0.50/$1.00 | Needed: $2000
Limit: $1.00/$2.00 | Needed: $4000
Limit: $2.00/$4.00 | Needed: $8000

[/ QUOTE ]

As i understand it, a buyin is 100 bb. Is that big blinds or big bets?

Thanks, Bobby.

edit: oh, and why is br requirement for stars .01/.02 different?

tl;dr = too long didnt read
100bb = big blinds

bb is not to be confused with ptbb, which is twice the big blind

I don't really know what you mean by big bet, or what your last post means, but you should be buying in for max regardless.

In limit the bet size doubles on the turn,
hence the name big bet.

big bet = 2xbig blind

the consensus around here seems to be buyin for 100 big blinds. Absolute allows a buyin for 200 big blinds.

Should I be buyin for the "absolute" max? as in, should I buy for the max allowed regardless of what that max is?

The penny game on stars plays deepstacked. $5 (250bb) is the max buyin so $100 is 20 buyins.

I was assuming you were playing NL, in which case the concensus is to buy in for the max buy-in, which usually happens to be 100bb. It might be different for limit though, I'm not fully versed on limit strategy :P

train,

I'd love to be able to buy in for 200BB. IMO that's just about the perfect amount to play with. And you can exploit weak players all the more when the stack off with AA, mmmm.
