Student loans/rent/credit card debt. That's all gone. I don't have to be here.

RUN!!!!! What are you waiting for?

Worst case scenario, you're back in the job market in a year with a good network, an interesting story to tell, and a fresh perspective to get your creative juices flowing on an acceptable re-entry point.

How long will your savings last you, absent other income?

[/ QUOTE ]

Savings account is one year if I continue going out to $400 dinners at Morimoto.

[/ QUOTE ]

Okay, that's a lot of time, assuming you don't piss it away. Then yeah, by all means quit. You've got time to figure things out.

[/ QUOTE ]

Dave, how much longer do we have though with this poker thing, it's not absurd that I could save up xxx,xxx more this year? right?

Matt,

I have never understood the fascination with work. While some find it stimulating or worthwhile, many others work out of need or responsibility. I quite enjoy my life which is filled with freedom and adventure. However, such a life would be found by some to be just as unsettling as I find the workplace.

Ultimately, the things you value in life should lead to an easy decision.

At 27 I got my workplace to send me to grad school full-time. You have a lot of free time as a grad student (despite what some grad students who have never had a real job think). If money isn't an issue you can study anything you want. Reentering grad school you feel as if your life is actually progressing. You can ask your company if they'll put you on administrative leave too if you still haven't quite made up your mind.

End of sales pitch.

It sounds like you already have a plan though. The only advice I have is make sure you stick to your plan and do what you said you'd do, and don't waste your time. The key to implementing this is to get in your new routine as soon as you leave, so you don't get into a routine where you're not making progress on changing your life.

[/ QUOTE ]

Thank You, this is good advice. I hope you get your * removed.

[/ QUOTE ]

The catch with this however, is that when a company sends you to grad school you generally must sign an agreement to work there for X amount of years after you graduate. Since Matty said he dislikes his job tremendously Im not sure this is a good idea.

Thanks Calderooni, you did things 100% correct though, you have that law degree to fall back on. Where as I have a lot of niche finance/marketing/regulatory jobs. But yeah, working [censored] blows.

Matt,

If you don't do this now you never will. Take your shot.

[/ QUOTE ]

c'mon, thats redonkulous.

How is this foolish? Do you see him doing this when he's 40 with a wife and kids? Do you see him doing this at 65? The worst case scenario is he fails at the music business and he winds up back in the corporate world for less $$. He should either do this now or give up on it forever.

Matt,

Alternatively, I could use a man-servant to do my bidding.

MattyRPG -

On one hand: I was in pretty much the same boat as you were two years ago. Difference being, I decided to stick it out at work and got married. I will not lie and tell you that I sometimes don't think about what it would've been like if I had quit my job and found a profession that really appeals/connects with me. Save yourself two additional years of misery, and get out now and enjoy your life.

On the other hand: "Love Monkey" lasted two episodes before it got cancelled.

Take of this what you will.
