Default **Update - \"Confronting the boss the today\"**

For those who missed the first post.

Cliff Notes...
*Was going to ask boss for a raise and give some constructive criticism.
*Ended up just asking a for a raise
*Boss said he would get back to me soon.

Now the update.....

Last week my boss said he would have some info for me monday (today). As my boss was getting ready to leave (he either forgot to talk to me or was going to duck me), I ask what is the update. He states he talked to our VP and that there is a raise in the works. He does not give me a real number though. He just says it will be for sure more than 3% but won't be the 20%+ I was looking for. My boss then asked me if I had something else lined up. I guess if it seemed I was going to bail then maybe they were going to something else..

So basically I found out there will be raise. It will be more than 3% but definitely less than 20%. There also is no set date for this, we usually get raises in June though.

What is my play?

Do I talk to the VP and try and get some real info? Should I just send him an email to verify he talked to my boss and confirm what I was told?

Suck it up and wait and see what the raise will be before I make any moves?

Should I get my boss to get me some exact details? How much of a raise? When?

Should I just stop bitching and get a new job?

Any other advice?

You gots to be ready to walk, man.

Much like poker, aggression will get you everywhere. Unfortunately, everywhere includes 'out of a job'.

If you ask for a 20% raise, you need a resignation letter in your other hand or it carries no weight.

Now you're just a guy that people know is unhappy with his current situation and possibly looking to move on.

Your stock most assuredly went down.

There is a lot of negotiating advice out there. Take advantage.

Good luck. I mean that.
