It's a section in the book called Getting Started in Hold 'Em by Ed Miller.

Default an indirect endorsement?

Anyone notice that in his book, BarryG writes that he usually/often buys in short? The strategy isn't just for newbies.

Well, after reading the op i decided to give this thing a shot in the $2k party games after losing a nice 6k in the $215s in one day. I see ony of the main problems with the 40 buyin min on the party games is that you have slightly too many chips to push on the flop and too few to make a neaningful bet on the turn. Having said that, I have only used this for about 2 hours 4 tabling and am up a nice $1400. I must admit though, it is boring as hell. Another little problem I have with it is that 3 times i blinded down to about 12 bbs and then got a hand, doubled up to about 25, then proceded to double up again. I just find the idea of totally blinding off if you dont get cards as slightly unattractive, but the cards have been kind so far. Hopefully they will stay that way.

well, you're not suppose to blind off. Also, you are not suppose to start with 40BB. Start with 25BB only, and rebuy to 25BB when you get down to 15BB. Since you say party allows only 40BB minimum buy-in, I don't think this strategy is ideal.

I've been messing around with this a little bit this week. I have 10K hands with a SD of 32.96BB/100. Doesn't this seem astronomical? My profit is 2.85BB/100. Any one else have similar numbers or did I just have a strange run this week? After my 1st few sessions, I really thought I was on to something profitable, but after the last few I have my doubts as to if I can handle the swings.

If that is the case, for a 1% ROR I need to carry 1.1K BBs which seems very impractical.

Thoughts?

I don't have a large sample (about 5000 hands), but my sd is 20.7 BB/100. Someone who knows about NL will have to tell you whether yours is unusually large.

My SD is around 18ish. Others reported similar SDs, so I think you've had a ban run. Or I and a few others had incredibly good runs. My winrate was 3-3.5ish. Sorry for the inexact numbers, but that DB isn't here.

You can buy-in at 20BB on Party.
