Default NL200 6 max, unraised pot common situation

Effective stack--220

Hero limps UTG+1 with A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 1 other limp, sb calls, bb checks.

Flop: 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

SB bets 8, BB calls, Hero??

If you advise raising, please explain the reason for the amount you chose, and what your plan is for the turn.

Depends....any reads? The bettor and the caller's stack sizes? Do I think I'd be able to push them off a small overpair?

If everyone is tighter, then I bump it about pot sized since I have TPTK and a backdoor nut flush draw. If there are a couple of maniacs then I lay it down. This isn't really a hand you want to go past the flop. On another note, I'm not liking BBs smooth call here who could have just about anything. Depends on the guys/stack sizes.

I don't mind dumping this. SB is often very strong in this situation.

Also pf I prefer a raise or fold depending on the table. Usually I'm raising.

Good point, forgot that. Axs, depending on the table and my own image I'll open raise 6max.

Meh, sometimes I raise sometimes I call. I don't fold Ax suited normally unless someone raises.

Would you be opposed to calling this flop? I dunno, I don't really like folding, but equally, I don't like raising. But the thing is, if I have a set, 2 pair, a draw, or a straight, I'm raising this flop. So given that, would a raise be the best play with TPTK?

As a few others have stated, I would raise this preflop.

Not at all. I just think you wont lose much my folding. Its a very marginal situation especially without reads. My default would be to call. You have position on them so keep the pot small for now and see how they both react to a blank turn. I think pot control takes precedence over hand protection here.

You have top pair with no draw, two players are already in for a pot bet each and there is plenty of money left to bet. I think you have to make some decisions.

If your hand is currently best, will a raise win the pot for you? If yes then I think that you should raise.

If one or more of your opponents will call a raise with a worse hand, how do you think the rest of the hand will play out? Can you profitably play for showdown value?

If you are thinking of calling, then you must believe that your pair of eights ace kicker is likely to be the best hand at showdown with at least two opponents still in.

I don't much like calling this flop.

Open limp sucks at shorthanded game.

Raise PF, be the aggressor. Then its easier to raise this flop if you face the same bet.

The way you played it I think this should be folded. You cant get flushdraws out with 3xbet raise and you cant know if they have flopped something really big.

The Turn was a brick and he bet 11. We both called. The river was a K, he bet 9, BB folded, I called. He had K8 and MHING.

In conclusion, I have mixed thoughts about this hand. I don't think the limp is bad as of right now. Maybe that will change as I become more experienced at this level.
