Strategy Question: Free Card in No Limit?
In limit, a well known move is to raise on the flop with a draw in position so as to have opponents check to you on the turn. This gives you the opportunity to get a free look at the river if you missed on the turn, saving you chips (among other possible benefits).
No limit is obviously a different beast. The "price of poker" generally goes up between the flop and turn, like in limit, so getting a free card is conceivable. However this rise in price is less predictable, so the strategy may work less often. Also, a normal flop raise in No Limit is considerably more than in Limit. So what do you think: does the Free Card Move work in No Limit? (Bonus question: if "yes", under what conditions?) |

No, I don't think so, or at least only very rarely. To buy a free card you need to represent strength, and in NL, that can quickly cost you more than you are willing to pay for just a draw.
