What do people think of Timothy Treadwell (Grizzly Man)?

Ok, I have alays wanted to visit Alaska. As a matter of fact, this is #1 on my list of places to visit. What's the best way to see everything. This includes some of the cities as well as some camping/hiking in some of that beautiful terrain that's in the middle of nowhere. Also, I'd like to get to Barrow eventually. What's the best plan for this? Fly into Anchorage, and rent a car or what?

He was just a blip on the very large map of Alaska. Many, many people here are just as cooky.

Do the Northern Lights look as cool as I imagine? Do people in Alaska care about them at all?

They look cooler than you imagine and while we don't freak out over them every time they unusually spectaculor most people will take the time to look at them for a while.

Some of the most impromptu drug usages have been the result of a spectaculor night of the Aurora. 5 nights a year they dance so much it looks like Bob Ross is painting them in the sky.

Fairbanks is considerably more dreary than Juneau, and also reasonably isolated.

[/ QUOTE ]

Even in the summer? At least Fairbanks gets sunshine and some reasonably warm days (I assume, as I haven't been there). In Juneau, it's just a different flavor of grey and wet, with the exception of the occasional sunny week--during which the locals all greet each other with "My, hasn't it been dusty lately?"
