NYC - Laid back Rest\'nt needed
any ideas on a classic laid back restnt in NYC around the midtown/union sq area?
how is Patroon around 46th and lex? NY Foodies...hook me up. now that i moved out of the city im starting to draw blanks... gracias |

Patroon is (I ate there last 3 years ago) very good but it is not laid back. It feels like an old club.
I tell everyone to go to Les Halles. Around Union Square there are a million options. I think CraftBar is pretty good, Casa Mono is terrific, Via Emilia (recently moved) is very good, Beppe is terrific, Kitchen 22 is very good. They are all pretty casual. |

Republic! I don't know if it qualifies for what you're looking for, but it is a nice, cheap, relaxing restaurant in union square that serves a great spicy duck soup.

Communal tables at Republic, lousy service, so-so food. Good for a quick lunch but I wouldn't make a trip to go there.

mario batali's Otto Enoteca. cheap and decent food.
for japanese food, i like shabutasu and soba-ya, although that's east village. |
