2 dolla donkament: Two spots deep in money
Decided to play a two dollar tournament for fun last night and ran into two spots that I wasn't sure what the correct move was.
Hand 1 - Went for the squeeze and got pushed over by the short stack, which ended the betting, and set up an awkward situation on the flop. That's a pretty good flop for me, but the pot is so bloated that any decent sized bet I make commits most of my stack. Since this is a super-micro tournament, can I profitably push this flop after big stack checks, or am I looking to just check this down, or what? PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t1000 (9 handed) Poker Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums) Button (t8687) SB (t3136) BB (t19261) UTG (t30616) UTG+1 (t36740) MP1 (t8163) Hero (t28314) MP3 (t19018) CO (t12329) Preflop: Hero is MP2 with T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. UTG raises to t2000, UTG+1 calls t2000, 1 fold, Hero raises to t6666, 2 folds, Button raises to t8587, 2 folds, UTG folds, UTG+1 calls t6587, Hero calls t1921. Hand 2 is just a basic tournament question strategy. The HH didnt get recorded for some reason, so I'll just explain it manually: Folds around to button, who raises to 4x (about half my stack at this point), SB folds, I have Q10o in the BB. In this situation, should I just be pushing since his range is wide and I'll probably be at worst a 60-40ish dog, and possibly ahead? |

Re: 2 dolla donkament: Two spots deep in money
In hand #1 I would check behind here, al a cooperation play. 2 hands are better than 1 to take out a shortstack and you are too far away from the nuts to bet into a dry side pot so I would just check the hand down. With 2 bigger stacks against a shorty I would like to have the nuts or near nuts before betting a dry side pot.
Hand #2 is a good spot to push over the top. Not necessarily a resteal because you have a top 20% hand and I am happy taking down the blinds or with a call, either way I do not much care. 4x BB at $500-1000 blind level is almost always a medium strength hand that does not want a call so I feel you can profitably get it in there. |
