Having played many blackjack tourneys, I would say that doing what TomTom suggests is the simplest way to go about it.

However, to have any semblance to strategy, you have to, at the least, have a maximum bet. I would recommend $500 with a $1,000 stack, but you might be able to get away with $1,000 max bet if people get upset with not being able to ALLLL-INNNN on the first hand.
