Re: flop straight ugly river 4/8 live
Need reads, but im thinking b/c here, as you definately dont want 3 bets going in on the river.
Probably would have heard from a T on the turn, and UTG1/SB could easily have 78, 79, etc. , and if they are passive live players they will just c/c this river thinking you have a T. |

Re: flop straight ugly river 4/8 live
Actually the more I think about it, two bets on the river is pretty bad given its a live game. The villains' raising range on the river has you beat. Unless the villains are bluff happy behind you, I think b/f, without reads c/c may be better.

Re: flop straight ugly river 4/8 live
Preflop: fine
Flop: You forgot to raise! Oh, you had some psychic connection with button and knew he was going to. I guess thats ok then. But normally you should raise the first time. Turn: Good River: Yucky. I really don't know. I'll go with b/c for now but I'm not even close to confident on this. |

Re: flop straight ugly river 4/8 live
Do you think anyone is betting anything you beat? I almost want to c/f. If no one has a T or 7 it's going to get checked around.

Re: flop straight ugly river 4/8 live
I'm check/calling on the river, but that's just cause thats what I do in big pots with marginally made hands. I don't see how you beat anyone who bets logically, but people bet illogically sometimes.
As for the rest of the hand...raise on the flop, your hand is vulnerable. Turn bet is good. |

Re: flop straight ugly river 4/8 live
the only thing I do different before the river is raise the flop.
I check the river, planning to call one bet if button bets and either sb or utg+1 folds. I probably fold if both sb and utg+1 call and I'm certainly folding if either one CR's. |

Re: flop straight ugly river 4/8 live
first off, i want to thank all of you for your comments.
Re: my flop smooth call - yes, I am frequently raising here. I smooth called because: 1) I play here all the time, and people know my play and fold quite alot when I get aggressive - especially this day 2) the initial bettor was on my immediate right, with 3 left to act. If I smooth call, I'm sure they all call. 3) my plan was to smooth call, then pop the turn as I was certain that the lag on my right would be if I smooth called, thus everyone else would face two BIG bets cold. Regarding river: RESULTS : I checked, planning to call one. However it checked through, and I chopped with the button who had 89o. He's tight enough (and the table is wary of me enough) that had I bet, he would have folded (he's says that at least). Which is why I posted the hand here-I'm moderating my aggression to spew less, but I'm concerned I'm missing some pots that I should be taking down if I were more aggressive. AB |

[ QUOTE ]

Interesting sub-question: how many players do you overcall? I think I would draw the line at one (so one bettor, one caller, I call). |

Re: flop straight ugly river 4/8 live
you can either betfold the river or check and see. betcalling is terrible.
