Most food should be discarded after 5 days in the fridge, but even if you think there is only a 5% chance it is no good (and the chance of it being bad is WAY higher IMO) then you are talking about taking a 1 in 20 chance of spending 24-48 hours with vomiting and explosive diarrhea. No brainer.

Disclaimer: I am neither a doctor nor a microbiologist.
From what I remember from college microbiology, there are very few bacteria that grow at refrigerator temperatures that will make you seriously ill, but plenty that will make food smell and taste bad, so, if it smells and tastes all right, it's safe to eat. However, if it is left out at room temperature for more than an hour or two, it could have salmonella, staph or lots of other nasties that can at least give you a couple of days of vomiting and diarrhea, and, worst case, kill you. |
