I\'m having a problem
Gentleman, I am a newbie here, and this is my first post. I think I should be posting under Psychology because I consider my problem Psychological. I am having a problem with the way people dress and conduct themselves.Let me say I am 66 years old, and when I played poker, say when I was 25 we often wore suits to the game. Today I walk in a poker room and to me it looks like the great depression. I am going to let it all out here, I don't want to hold back.I don't have a problem that people aren't exactly stylish, but there is no excuse for being FILTHY.You go to the bathroom and you can't help noticing how many people leave without washing there hands, and you know they will be touching the chips. How many times do you sit beside someone who smells to high heaven (that's easy, just ask for a seat change)I know I haven't been very articulate with this post, but I hope some get my point.I love playing poker, but if this is bothering me too much, should I just quit going? How can I get it to stop bothering me? Thanks for bearing with me, and good luck to all.

Re: I\'m having a problem
Trust me. If it wasn't illegal they would be playing in their underwear in the card rooms. I have seen them playing in PJ bottoms.

Re: I\'m having a problem
Unfortunately, this seems to be a widespread problem. While we have many advantages that other societies, past and present, did or do not have (clean water, medical care, etc.) we have a major problem with lazy people who weren't raised to care about their hygiene or appearance. Instead of learning basic cleanliness growing up, people get their images of acceptability from fat, stinking poker pros like Mike Matusow and Mark Vos. There is not a lot that can be done...I guess try the different casinos in the area and perhaps you'll find one with a better class of clientèle. Maybe try going at different times of day: I've found the dirtiest people tend to be there in the middle of the night.

Re: I\'m having a problem
Playing online is the answer imo, but if you must play live, bring a bottle of perfume/aftershave/bodyspary etc and spritz those with offensive odours. You'll be doing yourself and everyone else a favour

Re: I\'m having a problem
I intentionally don't shower for a week before visiting any card room. My hope is to put the more hygienic people on tilt.
A friend of mine once told me about a gentleman in the 40/80 mix game at the Bellagio who let out a fart so raunchy that it actually caused the old guy next to him to turn around and puke on the floor. I wish I'd seen it... |
