I don't like the donk bet on this board, i instantly think "set". I can't think of anything i beat on the river.... i think he missed a bet on the turn and is trying to make up for it now. easy fold?

He doesn't have an Ace worse than AJ and he may have tested out 88-JJ on the flop to see if they were good and got there on the turn or river, or he flooped a set.
