EV + or - and why
Playing a 1-2 nl cash game saturday night. I get JJ MP. Two limpers in front of me, I raise to 12$. Standard raises had been 8-10$. Guy next to me calls, BB calls and one of the EP limpers calls.
Flop is J-9-8 rainbow. Checked to me, I check, knowing he will take a stab and I will C/R him. Next to me bets 15$. Folds back to me. I raise an additional 35$ to see where he is. He immediately goes all in. I look at him and say " do you mean to tell me you called that raise with a Q-10?" to see if i could get anything out of him. Not that it would have done me much good, just testing. Nothing. I couldnt lay it down if my life depended on it. I call, he flips Q-10o. I had about 350$ he has about 125$, so not to big of a hit, but it hurt still, I had started with 150$. How often does top set win with a gut buster straight on the board after the flop? Is it ever EV+ to lay that down? Thanks. |

Re: EV + or - and why
you can't ever fold there....even if he has the straight, with all the money in the pot you are getting odds to chase the FH with 2 to come....and most of the time he won't have the straight.

Re: EV + or - and why
Get your $$$ in. You're going to be ahead a lot of the time, and the times you aren't you have 10 outs twice. Don't even bother getting a read. When you flop top set like that, just plot a strategy to get all the money in.

houstonCT,
Don't check flop. Easy call when it gets back, You fill up ~35% of the time |
