Is anyone else suprised they allowed them to chop up the 20k that has to be left on the table to 13k for first and 7k for second?

Extrapolate this idea to a hu match where players agree to leave the 20k on the table bu divide it to 11k for first ad 9k for second...essentially leaving 2k on the table.

Even more extreme a case where its 3 handed and the 20k is divided to $6666.65 for third $6666.66 for second and $6666.67 for first essentially leaving nothing on the table. Stars could be in for some hassle in future final tables if players agree to do somthing like this as it completely negates the purpose of leaving 20k on the table.

it was a little diff since there were still 6 people left, so its not like they just divided up the money. they still had to play for it, neither of the prizes were guarenteed for anyone. It would be different if it were HU and they divided the $20k race 13/7.

Also I'm surprised Lee allowed them to allot only $13K for first place and $7K for second. It isn't consistent with the provision that $20K be left to be awarded to the winner. If they leave money for the second place finisher, then the amount left for the winner should be $20K more than that.

To see why, just suppose they had said "We want to leave $4002 for first place, $4001 for second place, $4000 for third place, $3999 for fourth place, and $3998 for fifth place."

Edited to add: Falker11 beat me to this.

I don't think it completely negates the purpose...but it does say that at least 20k must be left and awarded to the winner, so I was surprised as well.

can anyone explain the logic of why the other 5 players agreed to this btw?

If I were in the same situation, I cant say that I wouldnt be tempted by this deal. It looks like the 5 were all around equal chips...so one wrong move and they would either be out or crippled. Difference between 6th + the chip chop is around $30k+ for each of them.

It would probably be different if there were a couple midstacks in there, instead of just 1 big stack + 5 small stacks. At least this is the reasoning I would think the other 5 had.

In terms of payout though....isnt a chipchop for the big stack best when there are more players? That way the guarenteed money for each player is a lesser amount (everyone gets 6th place money is less than everyone getting 5th place then chopping).

Frank got at least $20K more than his equity. At the time, he had just over 48% of the chips in play, which by conventional wisdom means he has a 48% probability of taking first place. But allotting him $130,675 was tantamount to saying he had a 66.7% probability of finishing first and a 33.3% probability of taking second, with no chance at all of finishing third, fourth, or fifth.

I figure that Confiteor, Ab1212, Kanniot, and Sailor67 each gave up around $5K of equity by agreeing to the deal.
