Before I go see a doctor..
OOT:
My eye has been bothering me for the past few days, mostly off and on but late at night. Tonight was particularily bad. I wear contacts, and late at night (while still awake, contacts come out before I goto sleep) my right eye has been hurting with the contact in at night. My left eye is fine, my vision is the same and my contact prescription is the same in both eyes. The contacts are new enough that they shouldn't be the problem. The right eye feels like it has an eyelash or something in it (it doesn't). There is pretty much just a consistent (but light) irritation in the eye. It is also producing a lot of what I call "eye boogers," the substance that forms in the inner corners of your eye. By a lot I mean more than I'm used to and much more than the left eye. Any ideas? Eye is a little bit relieved now, I just took my contacts out. It doesn't feel perfect though, and it doesn't seem like the contact is the problem, though it might be aggravating it. Not in my hometown right now but will figure out a way to get to an eye specialist asap, but if anyone has any ideas of what this could be, I'd appreciate it. Note - tried eyedrops, they aren't helping. They actually hurt a tiny bit when they go in. edit - contacts only in while I'm awake |

This is definitely the first place I'd go for a serious medical problem. Nothing like 22 year old obese poker players giving their medical opinions.

When I sleep, my eyes don't fully shut and what they think happened is I rubbed my eye when I was asleep and scratched my cornea. Well, when you scratch your cornea, a new one replaces the old one with some self made adheasive. I had what they called a recurrent corneal erosion which it wasn't attching itself. It hurt so freakin bad to keep my eye open. My parents took me to church tat next morning and I remember getting my ass beat several times because they thought I was just being a little bitch. I had to wear an eye patch for I think it was 2 weeks. |

Re: Before I go see a doctor..
Corneal scratch imo, happened to me
Doc said it'll heal by itself in a week or two if you don't wear contacts for that period, but not treating it could cause serious complications |

Re: Before I go see a doctor..
Without doing an exam, impossible to say - but by far the most likely cause is a smallish corneal abrasion. Keep your contacts OUT until your eye is back to normal. If the eye boogers persist beyond 24 hrs, go to an urgent care - they'll provide some antibiotic drops.
OTOH, if you have pain, rather than a foreign body sensation, or any change from your baseline vision, get seen sooner. You could have some significant badness such as herpes keratitis or iritis - something more significant. Good luck. MM MD |
