Re: NY Post claims: Poker has Jumped the Shark
When all the movie stars move on to something else I'll be a little more worried.

"If the bill were passed, it would effectively prevent U.S. residents from online gambling, which could cripple the $3 billion-a-year industry." Apparently the reporter is not aware of the myriad of ways to fund on-line poker accounts. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, who uses a credit card for this anymore? Most credit cards won't allow this kind of purchase, anyway. |

Re: NY Post claims: Poker has Jumped the Shark
I suppose anything that is new to TV (like poker hole cards) will lose some lustre after overexposure.
I mean, is the Bachelor drawing as well now as it did in Season 1? How about Survivor? Or Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? The thing is, poker is one of the few endeavors where amateurs are welcome and can win big money. See Chris Moneymoker. And ours is a "lottery" society. Everyone wants to get rich without working. So, I think poker on TV is going to have serious staying power. The celebrity poker shows may die out. But good solid tournament poker on TV where millions are at stake won't die out. |

Poker is on the decline again? That's about the 50th time the decline has started in the past few years.

Though admittedly the title is better than their original idea: Naked Doyle Brunson found with dead, headless stipper [/ QUOTE ] That'd be a great title, doesn't need the word dead though. Headless gives it away. But seriously, "jump the shark" has jumped the shark. Has poker hit it's peak? Maybe, but I think it will remain above pre-explosion limits. Same thing with chess in the 80's in the USA. Fischer made it big, cooled off with media coverage, but bigger than pre-Fischer era. |

ESPN's "Poker" [/ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Travel Channel's marquee "World Series of Poker" [/ QUOTE ] It's pretty hard to take an article seriously when it contains errors this big. |

Re: NY Post claims: Poker has Jumped the Shark
Will money ever go out of style? As long as poker remains a form of gambling people who are good at it will continue to play. True, the influx of new players will slow down when it is no longer a fad, but the remaining players will continue in a survival of the fittest battle. I just wonder if the casinos will be the last ones standing when the best of the best get raked to death.

Re: NY Post claims: Poker has Jumped the Shark
poker tv is lame, but poker the game is still thriving.
ex: 100,000+ players during peak times at pokerstars which still amazes me |
