I may be reading too much into recent results but decently experienced players that bet in a single motion by peeling off a stack and placing the stack in the middle without counting or stacking the chips or announcing an amount are bluffing.
True or false (or feel free to rephrase if need be): Players that bet without counting out the chips wagered or announcing an amount are generally bluffing. Followup - true or false in a cash game? |

There is nothing concrete in poker aside from never folding AA,KK preflop.

You can't base this as a solid read but it is definitely something I look for.

For an amateur kaka, I would say that this is a high % tell. I've made calls and plays based on similar high % tells and have been right a majority of the time. What stakes were you playing? Do you have any other reads on the player? Did he seem like a newbie or a vet?

Be careful using this Caro-esque rule.
You should be concerned with betting motions, but only relative to those observed previously - not just "tells in a vacuum". -ZEN |

home tourneys usually. anywhere from 20 buyin with rebuys up to 100 buyin without.
relatively experienced players (more vet than newbie). companion read is that generally chatty players go silent on this stealing move. my calls on this have been pretty successful - too small a sample of course, but 7 out of 8 recently. i don't want to go overboard with it, but i noticed the same thing on the WPT broadcast last night (rerun of John H. versus amateur Chuck ______ at the Borgata open). |

Zen has a good point tho... Caro says that when a person is looking away from the table acting uninterested in the hand, he is encouraging action... he has a monster! But on the contrary, I have a friend that does this only when he is either on a draw or trying to steal. Now, just b/c the majority of people do it... remember, it's simply the majority. Not everybody.
Here's my advice to you about the hand... If it's cheap enough, I'd call... whether you're right or not... the info will be worth it. |

Thanks all.
Of course this will not be a hard and fast rule, but something to consider. Good point m1 about the pricing. |
