[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] 5. Off-topic dig at Daniel Negraneau and Canadiens: Given the video of DN in blackface, perhaps canadiens in general are more offensive than normal human beings. [/ QUOTE ] Daniel Negreanu is not a Canadien. [/ QUOTE ] Huh? He's from Toronto. [/ QUOTE ] I see you don't know where Toronto is. lol@americans [/ QUOTE ] Toronto is in Canada. [/ QUOTE ] o rly? i didn't know that. /sarcasm [/ QUOTE ] I must be missing something, what is funny about sarcastically suggesting Toronto isn't in Canada, or that Negreanu isn't Canadian? |

What the hell are you talking about, Toronto is in Canada. [/ QUOTE ] He's being a spelling nit because the guy said Canadien (which is the French spelling and usually refers to French Canadians). |

I don't think it's being a spelling nit when someone ****s up the spelling of the name of my people.
Do Americans want to be called Americens? Or Amaricans? |

[ QUOTE ]
I'm thinking purely about things that have no physical consequences. If the kid tried to stab someone or use the noose then that is way beyond crossing the line and something absolutely needs to be done about it. [/ QUOTE ] Lol, I'm glad you view stabbing and lynching as unacceptable! |

Re: High Schooler Dresses up as KKK member for Halloween
1. Please stop making irrational and disproportionate comparisons. It does nothing to further your arguments and if you don't know what I'm talking about then take a level 1 debate class at ANY college.
2. Stop trivializing the legacy that slavery and jim crow has left behind in regards to the structuring of our society. Part of this comes about due to the fact that most of us on this forum were born after the civil rights movement and really have little first hand experience with outright institutional racism and segregation in our face. We are only one generation since the end of segregation, do you really expect everything to be hunky dorey by now already??? Seriously!! 3. The lack of empathy and understanding on this board is sickening. We're so quick to comfort each other when someone goes on a 20 buyin downswing but when it comes to something like this people become cold and spiteful. People, women and children were killed, raped, tortured by the KKK. You don't see how bringing up their symbolism in a public institution such as a public school (where religious curriculum is not even allowed) would offend students and parents????!!!! Free speech aside, anything that can incite a riot especially in a place where children are involved is a serious issue! Have the numerous school shootings not taught us a single damn thing? 4. KKF: your posts are quite disappointing partly because you come across as a rather intelligent and progressive person through your other posts. 5. CalledMeDownLight: well..... |

[ QUOTE ]
The next step would be to ban other costumes because they're too scary, which is kind of the whole point of halloween. Really scaring someone is worse for their psyche than offending their sensibilities. [/ QUOTE ] Duke, many of the wealthier suburban public schools outside of Indianapolis have already banned costumes because "witches are offensive." |
