Re: Set mine w/ 88 in position?
if youre just set mining you need to be almost twice as deep as you are now. so fold PF

Re: Set mine w/ 88 in position?
if you don't have a read on how he three bets over 230 hands... he's probably pretty tight.
however, if your image is bad, I call for sure.... and not for setmining value. |

I guess you mean w/ bad image you're more likely to get paid on the set... but then its harder to steal the pot when we miss wfiw when we dont have a read he 3bs kinda light, then I fold like 80-90% of the time pre, due to lack of confidence in floating / stealing post flop. This is probably a leak of mine? |

Re: Set mine w/ 88 in position?
I would need to have a read that he defends his blinds lightish. before calling here. Normally I would just fold.
Good flops to float... thats a pretty situational questions and depends on the feel of the game imo. A72. K72. Q72. J72. T72. 972. KK2. QQ2.... I could go on. Normally I am just folding pf, esp since he is 17/14 |

Re: Set mine w/ 88 in position?
You're a short stack, right? And he covers, so you need 7 to 1 odds which his bet gives you (implied ~8-1). I think it more likely that you can double up because you are so short here. Set value alone seems to justify a call.
Add to that your position, and the other hands on the flop which are bettable, and this seems like an easy call. I think ak is a big part of his range (ak, jj+, maybe aqs), and you might be able to take down the pot if the flop misses ak. |

Re: Set mine w/ 88 in position?

Here's a common situation I'm unsure how to handle. Villain is 17/14/3.25 over 230 hands. I haven't noticed whether he 3-bets light or not, but I've been opening a lot preflop. Do you set mine here? Full Tilt Poker, $0.50/$1 NL Hold'em Cash Game, 5 Players LeggoPoker Hand History Converter Hero (CO): $99.50 BTN: $136.10 SB: $193.85 BB: $74.40 UTG: $129.60 Pre-Flop: 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] dealt to Hero (CO) UTG folds, Hero raises to $3.50, BTN folds, SB raises to $12, BB folds, Hero ???? [/ QUOTE ] Here is how I think it works, X + P >= coC X=Amount needed for +EV P=Pot co=Coefficient for set mining including set vs set, 9.5 C=Call X + (BB + SB + Raise + Re-raise) >= 9.5(Call) X + (1 + .5 + 3.5 + 11.5) >= 9.5(12-3.5) X + 16.5 >= 9.5(8.5) X >= 80.75 - 16.5 X >= 64.25 SV=Stack Villain SH=Stack Hero FP=Flop Pot, 25 If SV and SH are both >= X, you can call. Whether or not you can achieve X is based off of the FP and the increments you, or your opponent, bets in. Judging from the PFP, I think you can get your money by the turn or at least by the river depending on your line. Just re-raising the flops gets you close, floating and then re-raising or betting the turn would exceed X against most villains. If set mining is -EV, then you have to consider folding, 4Betting or All In. If you assume he doesn't have to be on a higher PP, then you should call and Re-raise his CBet. |

Re: Set mine w/ 88 in position?
the implied odds math has been done before guys, you can't call for set mining odds.
