also, "drinks" is a useless term for me.

if im buying a round of five bottles of beer and she just reaches down, pops off the tops and places them on the counter, then she's probably gonna get $2-3. If I buy a round that consists of one long island iced tea, two draft beers, a cranberry and vodka, and a gin and tonic, then I'm definitely leaving at least $6-7. has nothing to do with the cost of the drinks, just the complexity of the order and the individual drinks.

fair enough about not being specific enough. i seriously just wanted to see if anyone agreed with mbillie that you should pay more per drink when you're ordering several drinks. it appears that no one else does it that way.

To expand on my story
1. It was a fairly crowded bar it was much easier to just get a 20 out than rummage for change.
2. I still did tip (although I prob shouldn't have)
3. This story should not be surprising to anyone because service everywhere in Quebec is awful.

i'm on point with noah about the bartenders tip based on complexity of the order. i do tend to run into bs with meathead male bartenders here in la ONLY at clubs. i usually get a weaksauce 8 count that barely fills up more than half of the martini glass. whenever i get a female bartender i get at least a 12 count and sometimes the glass is overflowing with the goose. male bartender gets $0-1 on a $9-15 drink, female gets $3-5.

as for eating i'll tip 15% and round up to the next buck or two for standard service, more for great service ldo. i haven't actually straight out stiffed a waitstaff for bad service but i'll leave something in the 7-10% range on the rare occassion i get [censored] service. i'm in my mid 20s now so the service i get now is better than when i was in my late teens so maybe i have a bias for average service being good compared to the service i got a few years ago.

can anyone comment on this scenario i had with a bellhop while i was in new orleans on how much you would tip here?
it was 7 in the morning the day after we arrived and i asked if he knew where i could get some postcards. not only did he tell me where to get them but he walked me to the place(1 block) and sang on the way. i thought that was pretty cool making sure noone tried to pull any jackmoves on the tourists(high crime in downtown NO and lots of homeless on the streets).

yes, they are jerks. if your fare is $7.60 and you make it an even $10 you usually don't even get a thank you. if it's something like $6 and you ask for change for your ten you usually get a look of disappointment and a shake of hte head.

i once had a cabbie who pretended not to know what the "north entrance" of bellagio was. i was heading there from the rio and he insisted that he thought the main entrance was the north entrance after driving by. i told him that it's fine, i only have $8, and its all he's getting (which was true, but i may have said the same thing if it wasn't). he then asked me if i wanted to get out on the strip by the fountains. the meter was at about $7 at this point, so i obviously understood why he wanted to let me out. i told him i wanted to go to the bellagio. he asked me again if i wanted to get out. i said fine, and handed him an even $7. he bitched and moaned because i had told him i would give him $8. i told him that was before he tried to scam me, and then he told me to [censored] off. if i had been smart i would have ripped up the dollar bill while he watched.

My wife and I were eating in the coffee shop at one of the casinos in South Lake Tahoe a couple of years ago. Sometime before the food was on the table, the server went DB Cooper on us, as in, didn't check back after a couple of minutes (a different server had actually brought the food out) and we were sitting around for a good 15 minutes waiting for the check.

Finally, we went to the cashier, who had no idea where the check was, and what to charge us. I told her exactly what we had, but for some reason she didn't just write up a duplicate tag. Anyway, Houdini comes rolling up out of the back and my wife insists on paying the bill, signing a CC slip for a $0.17 tip right in front of the guy.

From my reading of it, the customer was so happy that he was being offered a $5 instead of 4 ones (meaning that there was no assumption of tip), that he tipped generously ($2 on a $6 order at a place where no tip is necessary).

A Vegas cabbie told me it was illegal for them to stop on the strip to drop people off/pick them up. Is this true or was he just trying to scam another $0.75 or whatever off me because he "had" to pull into the Bellagio driveway?
