Ohio St downed by Findlay
Seems like this deserves its own thread though no one has started it yet.
Findlay 70 - Ohio St 68 Looks like they're in for a long season. |

I'm pretty sure that's an exhibition game. That stuff happens all the time. I think Michigan State lost to Grand Valley State or something earlier.

Re: Ohio St downed by Findlay
Yeah, that happened to MSU too. Not really sure what it means. Probably not much. I do know that Nieztel was in at the end of the State game, but I dunno how much he or other starters played. It probably means these aren't the greatest teams in the history of basketball, but beyond that it doesn't mean much.
It did, however, get Sparty to tone down the App State stuff on Saturday, which I guess was nice for me and other Michigan fans, so these losses have some value. |

We're not talking about some school from a smaller conference coming in and beating them. This is a D2 school. It did happen to MSU as well, but it definitely does not happen all the time. Also, the "exhibition" moniker is pretty meaningless. Games before January are all pretty meaningless in college basketball in terms of how they affect your chances at a title. |

After a football season where Big Ten teams lost to Appalachian State, North Dakota State, Florida Atlantic, and Duke, we don't need this to start in basketball, too. I know these two bad losses were just in "exhibition games," but other major conferences play exhibition games, too (I assume?) Have ranked teams from the ACC, Pac 10 or SEC lost to Div II teams this year in exhibition games? If not, why does this seem to happen to the Big 10? |

Re: Ohio St downed by Findlay
Most here in Buckeyeland aren't too worried about it, however I have went from hoping for a top 3 finish in the conference to hoping we sniff the tournament. One must remember there are ~120 teams in 1-A football, while there's ~320 teams in 1-A basketball. The drop off between upper tier 1-A and upper tier 1-AA one would therefore assume would be much less than the drop off between D-1 and D-2 basketball. No respectable basketball program has any business losing to a D-2 school upper tier or not, exhibition or not.
