Re: Good Majorwager WTO article.

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Interesting read...good find. When is the "next step"? [/ QUOTE ] There's a hearing in Geneva on Thursday the 18th. Usually the Panel will issue written questions to both parties, some to be answered only by one, some to be answered by both. Both sides will turn in their homework about a week later. That's it. Nothing left to do then but wait for a decision on the dollar value and type of sanctions. There are no further appeals. [/ QUOTE ] Any estimate on time frame for a decision????? [/ QUOTE ] January 28th 2009. D$D |

I think there will be a decision before the first quarter of 2008 is over. [/ QUOTE ] http://www.majorwager.com/forums/mess-ha...wto-ruling.html Looks like Nov 30th now. Given past experiences I would say a two week postponement or so will happen. What grabbed my attention was that bottom few paragraphs. The United States has objected to Antigua and Barbuda’s multi-billion dollar claim on the grounds that US$3.4 billion “is nearly four times larger than Antigua’s entire economy, and thus wildly out of line with any realistic figure.” A legal team from the office of the United States Trade Representative has instead proposed that $500,000 would be a more reasonable compensation figure. Antigua and Barbuda has, however, replied that figures from the Internet gambling industry are not included in annual economic figures reported to the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank. He explained yesterday that most gaming companies do not report their annual profits, since there is no legal requirement that they do so. He suggested that this reluctance is linked to fears that the US could use such information to target the companies. I just hope there isnt some precedent about unreported sectors of an economy. Were they just redacted or what? If the figures were unreported, but documented somehow and reported, then we may be ok. SOrt of a double-edged revelation. |
