Re: Good beer in GREEN bottles does not exist
[ QUOTE ]
Hey beer snobs dogging on bud light, let's say you were to recommend some watery American light beer. What would you go with? Obv not bud light, miller light? coors light? I'm curious as to what you think. [/ QUOTE ] bud lite/miller lite/coors lite are about the same. Miller high life is by far the best cheap American macrobrew |

Re: Good beer in GREEN bottles does not exist
RDH,
CA, CO, close enough DDY, The overwhelming portion of the caloric content in beer is from the alcohol. Even a Guinness is only around 120 calories or so. Regulating your calories by drinking lighter beer is pointless if you're just planning on drinking until you're trashed. It'll take roughly the same amount of calories to get you there no matter what unless you start drinking the really sweet beers, such as the Belgian tripels, or any beer with "imperial" or "double" in its name. Now, if you're just planning on going out with your buds for, say, exactly two beers, you can save somewhere between 10 and 50 calories by choosing anything that ends in "lite" over something else. For me, I'd rather forgo eating the last dozen grains of rice from dinner than choose to drink a beer I didn't like as much in the name of saving 50 calories. |

Re: Good beer in GREEN bottles does not exist

Yuengling gets way too much love in threads like these. Put it next to any of the good lagers mentioned here - generally the Czech Pilsners, but traditional German lagers are good, too - and it just can't stand up. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, but I can't get these other beers for $14.99/case cold like I can Yuengling. Matty - good call on the Moosehead. Here's another tasty clear bottle variety: Completely unrelated, but I've been drinking the hell out of this lately. |

Hooray, I beer snob thread. Besides Yuengling, I really like this beer: Also, FWIW, brown bottles are apparently the best bottles to store beer. They are the best at keeping out light, which damages the beer over time. I learned this from a Sam Adams commercial. [/ QUOTE ] I'm a sucker for a good gimmick and that is one really sweet bottle. Gonna have to keep my eye open for it. |

[/ QUOTE ] Wow, didn't know that at all. ty for the reply, beer snob! I will try the beers you recommend. I always thought heavier beers were closer to 200 calories. I never knew the calories were actually from the alcohol. By that logic, is having a whisky close to the same calories as a beer? |

By that logic, is having a whisky close to the same calories as a beer? [/ QUOTE ] It's pretty close, but a 1.5oz shot of most any 80 proof liquor is going to be right around 90 calories. The liqueurs that are lower proof have sugars and flavors and such added in, so who knows with those. I think Guinness gets its "heavy" rap because it uses beer gas for carbonation instead of straight CO2, which results in that thicker, silkier mouthfeel. |

Southern Comfort, with all its molasses, comes in at 180 calories for 1.5 oz. |
