Re: Baseball managers are vastly overrated
[ QUOTE ]
"I could have led the Red Sox to the WS this year." No. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah nevermind. The manager has to make some realllly tough decisions. I mean, he had to choose whether or not to start Ortiz at first over Youk when they played in Colorado. I would have cracked under that pressure. |

Re: Baseball managers are vastly overrated
I dont have time to read this whole thread but my responce to your OP is
NO!!!! Managers are vital to making sure the available players are in a position to succeed. They also deal with personality conflicts, injury evaluations, preparations, game time decisions and a host of behind the scenes situations that u dont get to see on TV. |

[/ QUOTE ] When we want someone with experience managing winning baseball teams, we turn to Bobby Cox or Terry Francona. When we want someone with experience peeling off 40+ thoughtless, low-content posts on a message board in <24 hours, we turn to you or me. We all have our own special talents and shouldn't assume those things are easy for everyone else. |

The whole game is just on auto-pilot. Some guy pitches the ball and some other guy tries to hit the ball and there are no adjustments or strategy decisions or other considerations all game or season long. Short version - If you really think that was Francona's toughest or only decision for that game then you do not know nearly as much about baseball as you think you do. |
