Re: Brag: new car
Got a Lexus RX 2002 so I can second your comments. If you're gonna get a RX, definitely consider getting post 2005. Newer generation bumped up the interior to try to keep ahead of the competition.
Also Lexus took #1 in JD Power for reliability for like the last 3 years. Main reason I didn't consider BMW and god forbid, Mercedes. [ QUOTE ] If you can, don't waste your money on a car, it's a bottomless pit, but then life is for living...I recommend Lexus if you have no idea what to buy...I have both the RX and the GS, they are impeccabley reliable (RXs post 2002 if you can). German cars start to break at 80-100K. Jap cars last to 200K before anything major. [/ QUOTE ] |

Re: Brag: new car
nice car OP...I have some recommendations for you though...I used to own an Audi, and while it isn't a bimmer, I would be willing to bet that a lot of the same stuff applies. I owned my Audi for about 18months and only lost about $3k to appreciation and whatnot...but I also had to pay about $1.5k in random maintenance...German cars are very expensive to own out of warranty because they have been designed to last until about 50-70k miles.
I now drive an STI and I plan on driving it for a long time. German cars are awesome, but don't let the guy at the garage trick you into every little "preventative maintenance" service they offer. The bills from all the repairs can cost more than anything else! Nice car, huge brag buying a car from gambling winnings! |

[ QUOTE ] blue book RETAIL is only 29 for ex. condition and very low miles. 26k for private party. Nice car though. [/ QUOTE ] is this in the united states? cars are FAR cheaper in usa. [/ QUOTE ] Yes US.. that's still true even though the Canadian dollar is worth more than ours?? Seems like lot of people would be crossing over to the US to buy big ticket items, even if they have to pay the duty on them then. |

[/ QUOTE ] didn't mean to imply that it would only last 4-5 years, I meant to say that it will only go that long before needing expensive repairs. A new car will obv last much longer than 4-5 years, but in repairs are generally very expensive in German cars because they have been engineered that way. If you check any of the stuff on consumer reports, they generally all say to never buy a German car out of warranty for this very reason. |
