Default AQ

why people dislike playing AQ like doyle brunson.... i read it in super system 1.... there is a mathematical answer?

I am not sure but I think there are mainly two reasons.

1. If you are ahead you can play AK much stronger than AQ because you are not threatened by any overcard.

2. If you have AK and someone holds QQ or a smaller pair you are only slightly behind. If you have AQ and someone holds KK you are very much behind.

AQ does well against random hands and loose opponents. However, in raised pots, it often makes a big second-best hand, TPTK versus an overpair, or TPQK against TPTK. These are particularly expensive in NL.
