Re: Short Poker Essay: How to get broke, how to get rich
True, but a majority of players in HUSNG aren't rolled for HU cash games that allow you to make that much a month. You can play with a 30-40 buyin account (if not less) and grind your regular game 220s-550s and not worry too much about the swings (the good players) or having to have 50% or more of your life roll online as your bankroll.

Re: Short Poker Essay: How to get broke, how to get rich NLTRN
Great post, Indy. I've been thinking about this for the past month since I've been learning HUSNG's. I totally agree with everything of course. Every time I set a goal of getting my BR to a certain amount before the end of the month I fail. It's so awful. I'll play 6-max cash for a few days and come back to HUSNG's and I'll win 5+ in a row and get excited that I can keep up a 60%+ winrate everyday. Then I'll lose five straight and sink into a deep depression or even worse go on bankroll tilt to recover my losses. I've done this for so long. I'm so much invested in short-term results.
Anyway, I really try now to just play correctly and never sweat it when the deck hits me in the face. It also helps me to play more than just HUSNG's. I really believe that I have the "poker skills" (whatever that means) to be a winner, but my mental approach has been so [censored] up that I've struggled since I began playing online a year ago that I'm a losing player. Sucks, but I take responsibility. |

Re: Short Poker Essay: How to get broke, how to get rich
As great and profitable as HU cash is, I don't know anything more tilting then constant short stackers/ hit and runners that show up in those games. The nice thing of a HU sng is you can just sit back and focus on your game and try to figure out your opponent without having to worry about him laeving after he cracks your Aces.

Re: Short Poker Essay: How to get broke, how to get rich NLTRN
Great post, Indy. I've been struggling with this myself for a while. I think part of my problem is that I am a student and don't have much time to play, and when I do play I am sometimes impatient. Today I played several matches where I took a full five seconds before each decision and thought it through, even the most basic ones. I won a few in a row pretty easily, but even better, I made good decisions, and I feel that I improved as a player in those matches.
Thanks for reminding us to focus on the important stuff. hcl |
