Default 4/8 Live....$5 Rake, $1 Bad Beat Jackpot....Is it worth it?

Where I live this is the only live limit game that is played. Do you think that this is beatable or a waste of time? The players are average at best and pathetic at worst. Over the past few months I have logged 300+ hours with a win rate of $2.7/hour. I feel like I am wasting my time but I like to play live because it keeps me sharp for when I do play higher limits elsewhere.

Thoughts?

If you have the bankroll, play higher. The less impact the rake takes on your winrate, the better. That seems like a VERY high rake to beat for a decent winrate.

I have the bankroll to play much higher. There just isn't a bigger game. All that is played is 3-6, 4-8, and 2-5 NL 300 MAX Buy-in. I do drive a couple of hours occasionally to play 10-20 with much better results.

My guess is that it's beatable, but just barely. I think your $2.70/hour is about the best you can hope for. I'd keep playing if you enjoy it, but don't expect to build up much of a bankroll this way.

Also, I'd be cautious that you don't start to get frustrated with your winrate and start playing badly (overplaying your hands and playing too many of them). This is easy to do when you realize that you are the best player there but still only making a measly $3/hr.

I play 5/10 with a $5 max rake. That's as high as my bankroll will allow.

Does your casino comp you for your play? This joint I'm playing at doesn't comp anything, the service is terrible. There is nothing I can do about it except not play, but they are always packed so they could care less about losing a single customer.

Yes. We check in with our card, they give us a piece of paper. You hand it in to the cash when you're done, you get comp money per hour of play. The amount of money you're given goes up as the limits increase. It's not that much, but it basically allows for a free meal every couple of trips.
