Re: The Worst Strategy You\'ve Overheard at a Table
Was at a 1-2 nl game at T.I. a month ago and was in a hand with a pretty tight player. He bets half the pot, I call with nut flush and gutshot draw. Turn is a blank, he pushes about 1.5 of the pot, I flash my cards (frustration at the night of futility I was enjoying) and muck.
Guy next to me says "good fold, you had about a 20% chance of making the flush" I say "I think it is closer to 25% but whatever" "no, no" he says "I read it in several books, with one card to go you only have 20%" I say "well, there are 4 suits, right? and 1/4 is 25% right??!!!" "Well, yes, I don't know the exact math behind it, but this has been proven by simulations and these are facts from people like Doyle Brunson" To this day I don't know if he was trying to put on the dumb guy act which I do sometimes or if he really believed it. He kept spouting facts and figures the whole night, but he never made money nor did he bust out so I don't know. |

in a local full table 1/2 nlhe game i get AA utg. the table is mega loose so i pop it to 12 and get 3 callers. flop is k104 no flush draw. i bet out 40 and the last caller goes all in for like 40 more. i am pist off but got to call this uber donk. As i am putting chips in i ask if he has k10...he shakes his head and turns over k4o i was tilty so i berate him a little and he replies, " you only raised $12 preflop." [/ QUOTE ] If that's what he said, then technically he has a point. |

Re: The Worst Strategy You\'ve Overheard at a Table
I like the reasons everybody gives to play their "favorite" hands and how their favorite hands are normally quite horrible.
Like justifying playing 73o, because Joe Hachem won the Main Event with it. Like 23o, because nobody would put you on it, when you actually hit. These would be mostly funny anecdotes were it not for the fact that some people CONSTANTLY play their favorite hands. Like on lady always plays KT, her favorite hand. She has such a proud smile about it, too. So when you cap and she calls, she's probably playing (QQ+,AKs... +KT(o) ). After the talk of the favorite hands, often people ask me what my favorite hand is. I never thought about that, so I just say AA... "Oh, that is so lame!" was the answer. I guess I'm lame. |

You need to be aware that he was correct and you are wrong. While there are four suits, because you have a flush draw, more of them are not in the deck, so your odds of hitting go down. |

Re: The Worst Strategy You\'ve Overheard at a Table
I don't play live too often, so I don't have any really good ones.
A friend of mine overheard this, and he wasn't sure if it was true or not (lol): "J9 is a better starting hand than JT because there's a better chance of a straight" /head asplode |
