surprised more people aren't talking about In Rainbows. I think it's the best album I've heard this year.

I think a lot of the discussion ended up in the OOT thread.

TBH, now that I've listened to it a few more times, I like it but don't really love it. It'll probably grow on me with time (both HTTT & Amnesiac did), but atm I'm not even sure I'd put it in my top 10 this year.

Here's what I posted in the Radiohead thread in OOT:

So I've listened to it 2.5 times now. It's fine, but it hasn't grabbed me yet in the way I would like it to. There are songs that seem to start out very promisingly - Bodysnatchers, Nude, Reckoner - but then go somewhere that doesn't quite do it for me as much. There's no one song that I really truly love, at least not yet, and all of their previous albums had something that got me right away. I think one thing that's missing is the sort of through the roof, melodramatic melancholia that usually shows up - Exit Music, Motion Picture Soundtrack, Pyramid Song, etc. I eat that [censored] up.

[/ QUOTE ]

I've listened to it again since then, and I'm mostly sticking to it. I'd love to hear other opinions on the album.

[/ QUOTE ]

really? 'all i need' is that song for me. the album maybe scrapes into my top 10 but that is probably my favourite song for the year. i really love 'videotape' too.

I saw The MGMT open for Of Montreal a few years ago and I thought they were just weird, but their new LP Oracular Spectacular is freaking amazing. I can't stop listening to it. I've read it described as veering between David Bowie glam, straight-up electro, and psychedelia, and that sounds about right.

Stand out tracks: Time to Pretend, Electric Feel, Kids

bump because I'm going to this next weekend.

music update:
-Jens Lekman still has the best album of this year (and maybe in a long time)
-the Black Kids are really good and not just hype.
-I really like the new Radiohead, but I can't stop listening to Jens Lekman, so I don't have a fully formed opinion on it yet.

Thought this was interesting for DirecTV and XM subscribers:

XM is currently playing every song that ever hit the top 40, in chronological order. They started on October 18 and will go through Thanksgiving. Currently, they are on the 60s.

It will air on the respective decade channels (e.g., 60s on 6).

I assume you're going to see them live, don't know of any new CD's coming out. Saw the New Pornographers this summer, they had a really really polished performance but not much stage presence at all. It was a pretty large outdoor festival though, so it's tough to say. Still enjoyed the show, but they weren't my favorite act there.

Anybody else listen to much BBC Radio 6? The right show can be well worth a listen. Newer stuff they've introduced me to includes catchy, poppy stuff in an Artic Monkeys vein; The Wombats, The Pigeon Detectives & The Enemy. Plus more melodic stuff like Richard Hawley (hard to believe that song is about ASBOs)
