Re: *WORLD SERIES GAME ONE THREAD: Rockies at Red Sox*

All I'm really saying is that Manny being in LF alone is probably worth 2-3 runs a game to the Rockies offense [/ QUOTE ] LOL Sad thing I could see McCarver saying some [censored] like this. I remember a Mets fan from way back who claimed that Rey Ordonez saved the Mets ten runs a game with his glove. Of course he was like 11 years old. |

Re: *WORLD SERIES GAME ONE THREAD: Rockies at Red Sox*
Manny should just not take the field anymore if he's that bad.
I mean, he should be listed as LF, but just stay in the dugout on defense. |

All he has to do is misplay one gapper with runners on 1st and 2nd, and there's two runs right there. If he's truly as awful a LF as even Red Sox fans say, the characteristics of LF at Coors will be brutal to him even beyond what they are to merely mediocre LFers. Of course, he may counteract that with two 3-run home runs, but that's not my point. |

Re: *WORLD SERIES GAME ONE THREAD: Rockies at Red Sox*
no.. we're serious. It'd be impossible that any player worth between -2 and -3 runs per game on defense would be in the majors. Because if they were, he's have to be worth at least +3 runs per game on offense.. I don't even know what his stats would look like in order to do that.. but I think it'd be something like:
0.850/.920/3.200. Something like that. edit: and I guess 150 dingers and 400 rbis as a bare minimum. That'd be with running bad with runners on base I guess. |

Mond-
Don't try and back up the statement that Ramirez is worth 2-3 runs per game It's more like 0.2 runs per game maybe |

Re: *WORLD SERIES GAME ONE THREAD: Rockies at Red Sox*
I said in the first place I didn't know the hard sabremetrics on this. Wow, buncha nits here.
Okay, here's what I'll say -- ManRam will cost the Sox runs in the two or three games in Coors, plain and simple. How many? Who knows, 2-3 games is hardly a meaningful sample. But at least one time, his misplay will lead to Rockies runs. He doesn't have to be worth 2-3 runs per game extrapolated over a season. Clearly, that's imnpossible (as kidcolin points out). He just has to misplay one or two balls hit in his direction. Is everyone actually saying that "yeah, he's a horrible fielder, but he won't have any negative effect whatsoever during the games he's out there"? Because one of those clauses in that sentence would clearly be untrue. |
