Let's go $100K that I will not give up my hearing for whatever amount!

BTW, I am dead serious about this.. money is just not that important IMO compared to my sight or hearing....

Someone has your entire family locked in a room with a bomb. The only way to get them out alive is for you to take $20 million dollars and give up your hearing.

I win. Or do you let your family die so you can hear at their mass funeral?

I accept Paypal for the $100K

Yea, 20 million sounds about right.

A quick ballpark guess of what I'd sell my senses for:
Sense of smell - 1/2 a million
Sight - 40 million
Sense of taste - 5 million
Sense of touch - 1 billion
6th Sense - Handful of magic beans

[/ QUOTE ]

lol @ giving up sight for 40 mil

This seems perfectly within the confines of the bet. I guess he owes you 100k.

Yeah that's kind of what I was figuring too. (We'll see if he goes for it)

Smell is the only sense I would consider giving up for any amount of money.

I'll take $20 million for my hearing.

How expensive can Hearing Aids really be?

Definitely a +EV investment.

Some guy like in the Saw movies should kill anyone who would accept the money.

You can't appreciate life, you don't deserve it.

lol. you can't use hearing aids if you have 0 hearing. hearing aids only amplify the sounds coming in so that the you can hear them with what little hearing you have. it wouldn't matter how loud the sounds coming in are, if you're completely deaf, you won't hear it.

now, perhaps you could get a cochlear implant. but with cochlear implants, sounds aren't natural, clear, or vibrant. you can "train" your brain to understand speech when you use a cochlear implant, but listening to music would be difficult.

btw i am a hearing aid wearer - i have 0 hearing in my right ear and about 1/2 of normal hearing in my left ear. i wear hearing aids and do pretty well.

disclaimer: i know you can't use hearing aids if you are completely deaf, but as i don't use cochlear implants, i can't guarantee that i'm right about those. i think i am, though.

to answer the question: since i expect to make enough money to live comfortably off of, i wouldn't want to lose what remaining hearing i have for $20 million. i don't know how much it would have to be. $100 million? A billion? i dunno.
