Default PSP - Worth it?

I was thinking about picking up a PSP after work today. Is it worth it? I know at the moment they're lacking in the game department, but I'm told it will be picking up in the coming year.

Any thoughts?

This topic has come up a few times, and the consensus seems to be: I don't know. Some games looks pretty cool, and it does double as an MP3 player, but you can't pirate/run homebrew with the newest firmware and the games are expensive. I'll agree that the screen is absolutely stunning, but I'm still searching for a reason that *should* but one instead of ways to justify my gadget fetish.

If someone gave me $300$ and I had to spend it in the mall or something, sure I'd do it. I guess.

For movies/etc. I like mine. But the games run very, very slowly.

If you want a gaming system, get a ds. If you want more of a media system that can support some games (only a few good ones) then go with the PSP.

I gotta say. I've dumped a ton of money into my PSP.

Is it fun to have? Yes
Is it the end all portable? No
Do I use it almost daily? Yes

If you got extra money, do it, also look on ebay for the games as they are cheaper.

I think it was a good choice, at least for myself.

I would wait on the PSP until there is a solid library of games for it. I have both a PSP and a DS and the only game that got the nod over my DS was Lumines.... but then I got Meteos for DS and now the PSP gets no love at all.

I love it. There are some really fun games, it is a good size with good graphics, and if you turn down the brightness on the screen (which is not a problem unless you are in a very bright room) then the battery life is pretty good, too. At full brightness, the battery life is a little bit disappointing, but still not as terrible as I heard before buying mine. I use mine every week on the airplane and it is really really great.

Haha. I read this and then looked at your location. Not sure what to believe.

Thanks for the advice, everyone.

Edit: That's the first time I used a smiley face in a post. It's really not as exciting as it looked.
