Default 2/4 online tell

Hi - first in with A9o and I paused for a second and then I raise the BB - idea was to steal the blinds. The next player auto-raises. He must have clicked the raise any button. I would put him on a better hand than I have.

After the hand I looked at his stats - 52 hands - VP$IP 30% and PFR 7.9% - small sample. My stats 77 hands - VP$IP 19% and PFR 11%

I called and a jack flopped. I checked and folded to his bet.

Preflop: Hero is MP1 with A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img].

Hero checks, MP2 bets, Hero folds.

Final Pot: 3.75 BB

Okay - that is why I hesitated - since I play 19% VP$IP I was trying to do a steal - not worth it. When I played .25/.50 18k hands I VP$IP 23%

Thanks

you should not be going for a steal with mediocre hands like this in MP1, CO and button yes...

I was giving this more though and of course you are right. Before falling asleep I pondered this hand.

Stealing concepts as I now understand them.

You want to steal 2,1, or 0 off the button. You want to have showdown value for when you get called. If the SB 3-bets then your steal attemp was ill timed since he is not someone that is likely to let you steal. A good player in the SB would 3-bet to knock out the BB. Showdown value might be pairs 77+, AJs+, and AQ+ (too tight?).

Other hands that are stealing hands, I think, are suited hands better than say J8s+, Q9s+, K9s+, offsuit A9+ so if you get called by the blinds your have a good chance to hit.

You need a hand that has showdown equity or pot equity. I think. I would appriciate beening set straigh here.

On target here?

thanks

Stealing from MP not a terribly fruitful exercise, at least live. I don't play online. Live if I really wanted to play A9o (gotta admit it's one of my favorites) I'd limp it and see what the flop brings.

From the CO or OTB any hand is a stealing hand... but at 2/4 you're not going to steal many.

open limping A9o from EP or MP is pretty much always bad.
