Re: Why is Paul Running as a Republican?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Best case scenario for Paul is he takes ten-fifteen states or so including New Hampshire, South Carolina, Nevada, Alaska, Texas, Washington and some other states in the Northwest and South. He'll go into the convention trailing Rudy in delegates, but Romney and Thompson quite a bit behind. I think if this happens Paul would get the nomination. [/ QUOTE ] Best case scenario is if he wins all the states...why limit it to just 10 or 15? [/ QUOTE ] Because Paul winning Iowa, New York, New Jersey, Tennessee, Massachusetts, California, Florida and numerous other states is close to impossible. |

[ QUOTE ] 2.) Telephone polling is way, way more accurate than call-in and online polls, not to mention scientific. [/ QUOTE ] Only if people aren't asking biased questions, which is never. You obviously need to watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=If9EWDB_zK4 [/ QUOTE ] Please tell me which of the following people you would be most likely to support for the Republican nomination for president in the year 2008 clearly biased |

[ QUOTE ] Also, you cited wikipedia, I cited the national green party website. I would hope that if you're interested in finding out reliable information about the greens you would look to their actual written word first. [/ QUOTE ] I'm not too interested haha. I just went to wiki cause it's quick and easy, and I figured you'd (passively) let me know if there were any discrepancies. [/ QUOTE ] Works for me. I just want to make sure that you know what's up, even though you may not care too much. |

Re: Why is Paul Running as a Republican?
If he wins the republican nomination he has a realistic shot at the presidency, and real change. While the odds of getting the nomination are slim, he is getting into the debates and thus getting national exposure for free just by being a republican. There is maybe a 5% chance he'll get the nominaiton.
If he runs as an independent he won't have any impact. Only billionares can run as independents. He'll be lucky to get on the ballot. Votes he might siphon off the republican party as an independent probably won't be there anyway. Libraterians don't really have a problem simply not voting when they are disgusted with the candidates. |

Most of the people who will be voting for Ron Paul will answer no to that question. |

Re: Why is Paul Running as a Republican?
He is a Republican because he is smart enough to realize that a third party canidate is not a viable alternative for pretty much any federal elected position. If he really wants make a difference as a politician, he needs to be elected first, and the only way to do that is as a member of the Democratic or Republican parties.
With that said, he has no chance of winning the nomination for president, so all this talk about Paul is getting really old. |

[/ QUOTE ] When he loses I am sure the libertarian party would take him in a heart beat. I also assume they would let him use their ballot access which is huge. Who knows, maybe he could get 5% and give the libertarian credibility/publicity/public funding(would they accept it?) they need. [ QUOTE ] Votes he might siphon off the republican party as an independent probably won't be there anyway. Libraterians don't really have a problem simply not voting when they are disgusted with the candidates. [/ QUOTE ] If he does some how decide to run on the libertarian ballot line he will get enough votes to siphon off money from the republican party. They will have to battle him all over the place, I assume it will be much like how the democrats enjoy attempting to sink the greens with their fiscal might whenever they can. It's really a shame he is so adamant about not running as a libertarian because he would surly disrupt the hell out of the election for the republicans if he did. Maybe that's why he really is a republican...deep down he does not want to screw over his party even though they are trying to sink him. |

Re: Why is Paul Running as a Republican?
What is the point of getting 5%? Ross Perot got 20%, nobody can remember who the hell he is or what his party was about.
Paul has repeatedly said his goal is to win. It is the only way to bring real change. Are the odds slim, yes. He's got no money and he isn't willing to change any of his posistions just to be electable. But getting five percent just to spite the republican party and get a bunch of socialists elected? I don't know, go ask nader how that worked out. Paul's already run as an independent. I'm sure he has a much better perspective on the matter then we do. |
