Re: How do Americans view Europeans?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Most Americans could care less. [/ QUOTE ] 'could care less.' Are people who use this saying being sarcastic/ironic or are they just dumb? [/ QUOTE ] They just have no view on Europe. They like to sound cool acting like the US is the only country that matters, but it's really due to the fact that they know they'll never vacation in a different country. edit: not an attack on ncaces. |

Re: How do Americans view Europeans?
But "could care less" means it's possible to care less, ie. they do care.
Edit: In fact I've formulated a view on Americans. They butcher my language. |

[/ QUOTE ] Think his point is that "could care less" means the opposite than what many think it does. If you "can care less" it means that you at least care somewhat, as there is room for caring less. If you "couldnīt care less" than you are as low in caring as possible. |

Re: How do Americans view Europeans?
I honestly missed the fact that it didn't say "couldn't". TBH I don't judge people who say it the wrong way irl though. It holds the same meaning to me even though I know it's wrong.

Re: How do Americans view Europeans?
[ QUOTE ]
Most Americans could care less. I don't think too many Americans would go to a European web site and post a post to find out what you think - as a whole we just couldn't care less. NCAces [/ QUOTE ] Looks like NCAces knows the correct way and it just messed up typing the first one. And I'll add one more time to the sentiment that the States really are different and separate, more so than it may appear from the outside. |

Re: How do Americans view Europeans?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I would venture to say that a good percentage of Americans could not point out Europe on a map. And I can say with certainty that a sizeable majority of American could not point out, say, Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, or any other of a number of European countries on a map. The insularity of American culture is, in my experience, something that is difficult for Europeans to fully grasp. [/ QUOTE ] I think a sizeable majority of Europeans could not point out any US state save for maybe Florida, Hawaii and Alaska on a map. [/ QUOTE ] US States != Nations [/ QUOTE ] How not? Each state is a mostly sovereign political entity. Well, according to the Constitution anyway. |
