I also think that Charlie Brown's sadness, always getting [censored] on by everybody else but continuing to persevere, reminds me of how I felt when I was a kid (although things were not nearly as bad as I made them out to be). The unrequited love for the little red-headed girl, the abuse at the hands (and mouth) of Lucy, the failures on the baseball field...yeah, the strip was melancholy as hell. Definitely part of why I love it.

Yeah great. Let's just hammer this home for oh 50 years or so until America really gets it.

Why was this cartoon ever popular?

[/ QUOTE ]
It's great.

I think it's popular mostly due to the cartoon version, though (at least with people today).

[/ QUOTE ]
lol the word cartoon is a bit unclear since you had already used it. I meant the animated tv movies or whatever, ldo.

I was surprised that more wasn't made of this at the time, but I thought it was pretty amazing that Schultz died literally the day before the final strip came out (final strip had been planned already, it didn't end just because he died ldo).

Also is it true that Krazy Kat is the greatest thing ever?

Hmmm, a writer leads a melancholic life...STOP THE PRESS!!! ?

Whether or not this is a picture painted of truth, it wouldn't surprise me at all.

The fact that he was often unhappy is not news to anybody who knew anything about him and shouldn't be news to anyone who is familiar with the strip.

[/ QUOTE ]

He left Minnesota and went to California, which should have eased his depression. If he didn't get take meds to take care of his depression, that's his tough luck.

Anyway, what I can't believe is the money people pay for the concrete statues of the peanuts characters

My wife keeps ordering CB cartoons for my kid. I made her stop because Charlie Brown is a [censored] loser, Lucy's a bitch, and Linus still carries his goddamned blanket around. You're wrong about Snoopy though. He's cool.
